01
Location
Parks SF uses your device location to show your position on the map and determine when you are inside a park boundary. Your raw GPS coordinates, routes, and location history are processed on your device and are not uploaded to Parks SF servers.
You can use foreground location only. Background collection is optional and is enabled only after you choose it in the app and grant the corresponding iOS permission. You can change location access at any time in iOS Settings.
02
Guest progress and optional accounts
Guest progress is stored on your device. If you create an optional Parks SF account, we collect your phone number and an internal account identifier so we can send a one-time sign-in code and restore progress.
Account sync can store collected park identifiers, collection dates and collection method, visit counts and last-visit dates, your personal park ratings, and the choices you make while comparing parks. Your display name is stored with the account. It does not include the GPS point that caused a collection.
03
Community rankings
Parks SF may combine comparison results into public park rankings. Public park rankings show aggregate statistics, such as wins, appearances, and a score. The citywide walker leaderboard shows each walker's chosen display name, collected-park total, and position. It never displays account phone numbers, account identifiers, or individual field records.
04
Park catalog and Apple Maps
The app periodically downloads a public park catalog so corrections can arrive without a full App Store update. This request may include ordinary network information such as an IP address, as with any internet request, but it does not include your park progress.
Map imagery and map services are provided by Apple. Apple's use of information is governed by Apple's own privacy policies.
05
Storage, security, and retention
Account information and synced progress are stored using Supabase. We use access controls so signed-in users can read and change only their own personal field record. Public aggregate ranking data does not expose the underlying account.
Guest data remains until you remove the app or clear it. Account data remains while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and synced data from the You tab in the app. Deletion also removes that account's comparisons from the aggregate community totals.
